Tips to Wash Brick

Brick Washing Tips in Scottsdale

You may have noticed that your brick home is starting to look a bit dingy. The first thing you need to decide is whether to soft wash or pressure wash it.

Soft washing is the process of using low pressure and biodegradable cleaners to clean surfaces. This method is safe for most types of brick and won't damage the mortar between the bricks.

Pressure washing, on the other hand, uses high-pressure water to blast away dirt and grime. While this can be effective at cleaning brick, it can also damage the mortar between the bricks if it's not done properly.

So, which method should you use to clean your brick home? It really depends on the severity of the dirt and grime. If it's just a light cleaning, soft washing is probably the way to go. But if the dirt and grime is heavy, pressure washing may be necessary.

Either way, it's always a good idea to consult with a professional before you attempt to clean your brick home yourself. They can assess the situation and recommend the best course of action.

Brick is a strong and durable material, but it can be damaged by pressure washing. The high-pressure water can erode the mortar between the bricks, causing the bricks to become loose and eventually fall out. The water can also seep into cracks in the brick, which can cause the brick to crumble. In addition, pressure washing can strip away the protective sealant that is applied to brick surfaces, leaving them vulnerable to weathering and staining.

If you do decide to pressure wash your brick surface, be sure to use a low setting and hold the nozzle at least 12 inches away from the surface. Use a wide-spray pattern and move the nozzle back and forth as you work. Start at the bottom of the surface and work your way up. Rinse the area with clean water when you're finished.

If you're not comfortable pressure washing your own brick surface, hire a professional to do it for you. They will have the experience and knowledge to do the job safely and effectively.
